Which Altar Are You Praying To?

In 1 Kings 18:36-40, Elijah stands alone on Mount Carmel, facing hundreds of prophets of Baal. Two altars are built. Two prayers are lifted. Only one is answered by fire.

Elijah’s prayer wasn’t long or loud-it was simply rooted in faith and obedience. God responded with fire from heaven, consuming the sacrifice, the stones, the water-everything. The people fell on their faces, crying, “The Lord, He is God!”

Pause and reflect:

Every day, we approach altars-places where we invest our time, energy, and hope. Some altars are built to God, others to idols of comfort, approval, or success. The question isn’t if you’re praying, but where you’re praying. Which altar are you trusting to answer by fire?

Today, examine your heart:

.

• Are you seeking God’s presence, or just a performance?

• Are you building altars to the living God, or to things that cannot answer?

• Will your altar invite the fire of God, or leave you empty and exhausted?

.

Let’s have the courage of Elijah-to tear down every false altar and rebuild the one true altar in our hearts. When we do, God’s fire will fall, and the world will know: “The Lord, He is God!”
